Belgrade fairs highlight energy efficiency

BELGRADE, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — The 19th International Energy Fair and 20th EcoFair opened in Belgrade on Monday, attracting more than 50 exhibitors, including six from China, with a focus on energy efficiency.
Inaugurating the two fairs, Stefan Srbljanovic, state secretary in the Ministry of Mining and Energy, highlighted the widespread impact of energy transition, saying, “It affects everyone — from those managing the energy sector to companies, investors, civil society organizations, and consumers.”
He stressed that energy efficiency is a critical component of this transition, and one of Serbia’s top priorities.
The energy sector plays a critical role in drawing investment and ensuring supply security, he said. Serbia’s energy projects will require about 15 billion euros (16.4 billion U.S. dollars) in investment over the next decade, targeting developments such as reversible hydropower plants, wind farms, solar power plants, gas interconnections, storage facilities, and oil pipelines.
Ivana Hadzi Stosic, state secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, outlined the government’s efforts in environmental protection, particularly in waste management and infrastructure projects.
She said the government has been working on modern regional waste management centers for the past four years, with nine of them expected to be operational by 2027. These centers aim to improve recycling efforts and support a circular economy.
The fairs are crucial for raising public awareness about ecological issues and encouraging citizens to actively participate in environmental protection, Hadzi Stosic said.
The Energy Fair focuses on promoting sustainable energy practices. Meanwhile, the EcoFair is a leading environmental event, showcasing advancements in sustainability, recycling, and waste management from public utility companies, local governments, and international organizations.
Exhibitors from over 10 countries, including Serbia, Hungary, Austria, China and Germany are participating. The fairs provide a vital platform for industry professionals, investors, and the public to explore the latest trends and establish partnerships in the energy and environmental sectors. ■
